Tuesday 19/6/12 - Death Valley

Drove to Dantes View for the morning view up Death Valley.

We then stopped at Zabrinske Point to look at the unusual sand formations.

We then drove to Stovepipe Wells to have lunch at the Badwater Saloon. Paul had a cheeseburger and I had a Dantes Steak Salad which consisted of steak, lettuce, tomato, capsicum, pine nuts and bacon bits in ranch dressing.

In the afternoon we went to Badwater for a view of the salt lake and then we drove back via the Artists Way which had interesting coloured formations.

We visited the Borax Museum which is part of the Furnace Creek Ranch. Borax was heavily mined in Death Valley so we learnt about what it is used for....laundry, to clean jet fuel, etc. I also bought some earrings at the museum called Death Valley pearl or Ulexite.

Parts of the Outdoor Museum:

Believe it or not there is a Golf Course at the Furnace Creek Ranch....

We spent the afternoon in the pool as temperatures were up in the high 40s again.
For dinner we went to the in-house 49er Cafe where we had prickly pear margaritas.
Paul had a burger with the lot called an Old Timers Burger with an egg.
I had Alaskan Salmon with wild rice.
This is a picture of the tabletop in the Cafe:
